Lost Quotes

The Man in Black: Why aren't you afraid?
Desmond: Excuse me?
The Man in Black: You're out here in the jungle, alone, with me. No one else on earth knows you're here. So I wanna know, why aren't you afraid?
Desmond: What's the point in being afraid? [MIB looks slightly intimidated, before smiling and then throwing Desmond down the well they were standing beside]

[Jack and The Man in Black are meeting for the first time]
Jack: You look just like him.
The Man in Black: Does it bother you?
Jack: No, what bothers me is I have no idea what the hell you are.
The Man in Black: Sure you do.
Jack: Why John Locke?
The Man in Black: Because he was stupid enough to believe he had been brought here for a reason. Because he pursued that belief until it got him killed. And because you were kind enough to bring his body back here in a nice little wooden box.
Jack: And he had to be dead before you could look like him?
The Man in Black: That's right.
Jack: And who else have you looked like?
The Man in Black: Jack, what do you really want to ask me?
Jack: Our third day here, I chased my father through the jungle, my dead father. Was that you?
The Man in Black: Yes, that was me.
Jack: Why?
The Man in Black: You needed to find water. Jack, I know this must be hard for you to understand, but all I've ever tried to do is help you.
Jack: To "help me?" To do what?
The Man in Black: Leave! But because Jacob chose you you were trapped on this Island, before you even got here. Now Jacob's dead, we don't need to be trapped here. We can get on a plane and fly away anytime we want.
Jack: If we could just get on a plane and fly away, why would you even still be here?
The Man in Black: Because it has to be all of us.
[Jack still looks uncertain]
The Man in Black: What?
Jack: John Locke was the only one of us who ever believed in this place. He did everything he could to keep us from leaving this Island.
The Man in Black: John Locke was not a believer, Jack. He was a sucker.

The Man in Black: Were you following us, Claire?
Claire: Yeah,
The Man in Black: Why?
Claire: [Looking at Jack] Because he's my brother.
The Man in Black: Looks like you two have a lot of catching up to do. I'll leave you to it.
Jack: Claire, I'm-- I'm sorry we--
Claire: Did he tell you? That he was the one pretending to be our father?
Jack: Yeah, he did.
Claire: You know I pretty much gave up hoping that any of you would come back. And now that you're here...it's good to see you, Jack.
Jack: Yeah, it's good to see you too.
Claire: Well, I've never had much in the way of family so it really means a lot that you're coming with us.
Jack: Actually, I haven't decided if I'm coming with you.
Claire: Yeah you have.
Jack: What do you mean?
Claire: You decided the moment you let him talk to you, just like the rest of us. So, whether you like it or not, you're with him now.

[Zoe, Widmore's associate, enters The Man in Black's camp]
The Man in Black: What can I do for you?
Zoe: You took something from us. We want him back.
The Man in Black: I don't know what you're talking about.
[Zoe goes for her walkie, MIB's people take aim on her]
The Man in Black: No, no, it's okay.
Zoe: [On her walkie] Show them what we're capable of.
[A few seconds later, a mortar round lands behind The Man in Black, causing an explosion. He doesn't even twitch, unimtimidated. Zoe gives him a walkie]
Zoe: You can call us on that when you're ready to return what you took.
[Zoe leaves. The Man in Black drops the walkie and crushes it with his stick]
The Man in Black: Well, here we go.

TV Show: Lost
[The group are on the sailboat to Hydra Island]
Jack: This doesn't feel right.
Sawyer: What doesn't feel right?
Jack: Leaving The Island.
Sawyer: Wanna me why not?
Jack: Because I remember how I felt the last time I left. Like a part of me was missing.
Sawyer: They got pills for that, doc.
Jack: We were brought here because we were supposed to do something, James. And if Locke-- if that thing wants us to leave, maybe it's because he's afraid of what happens if we stay.
Sawyer: Get off my damn boat.
Jack: What?
Sawyer: You got a choice to make and you make it now. Either you're with you and you keep that damn crazy talk to yourself or you're going in the water.
Jack: James this is a mistake, and I know there's a part of you that feels that. The Island isn't done with us.
Sawyer: Yeah, well I'm done with this Island. So if you wanna take a leap of faith, take it. Get off my damn boat.
Jack: [Pause] I'm sorry I got Juliet killed. [Jack jumps off the boat]

The Man in Black: I need for you to trust me.
Jack: Why should I trust you?
The Man in Black: Because I could kill you, Jack. Right here, right now. And I could kill every single one of your friends, and there is not a thing you could do to stop me. But instead of killing you, I saved your life, and now I want to save them too.

The Man in Black: Are you sure you won't reconsider, Jack?
Jack: Yeah, I'm sure.
The Man in Black: Well whoever told you that you need to stay had no idea what they were talking about.

Jack: Wait. [stops Sayid from pulling the wires out of the C4]
Sawyer: What the hell are you doing Doc?
Jack: Nothing is going to happen.
Sawyer: What?
Jack: Don't pull those wires out. We're going to be OK. Nothing is going to happen.
Sawyer: If I don't pull these wires, Locke is going to blow us to kingdom come.
Jack: No he's not! Locke can't kill us.
Hurley: Uhh, what?
Jack: This is what he wanted. This has been what he has been waiting for. Everything that he has done has been to get us here. He wanted to get us all at the same place at the same time in a nice enclosed space where we had no hopes of getting out.
Jin: I don't understand.
Jack: Locke said that he couldn't leave the Island without us. I think that he can't leave the Island unless we're all dead. He told me that he could kill any one of us whenever he wanted, so what if he hasn't because he's not allowed to? What if he's trying to get us to kill each other?
Sawyer: Stay out of my way Doc.
Jack: If he wanted that thing to blow up, why did he put a timer on it? Why not just throw it inside?
Sawyer: I don't care.
Jack: Nothing is going to happen.
Sawyer: It's not your decision to make.
Jack: He can't kill us!
Sawyer: I'm not going to stand here and do nothing!
Jack: James... We are going to be OK. You just have to trust me.
Sawyer: Sorry Doc, I don't. [pulls the wires from the C4 and the clock then speeds up]

Jack: Now why are you telling me this?
Sayid: Because it is going to be you Jack. [Takes the bomb and runs]
Hurley: Sayid!

Mother: May I join you?
Man In Black: [sheaths his dagger] Yes…How are you?
Mother: I’m worried.
Man In Black: Well, Mother, you should be. I spent 30 years searching for that place you brought me as a child--that…waterfall with that beautiful light. I’ve walked this island from end to end, not once coming close to finding it. But, then I began to think--what if the light underneath the island--what if I could get to it from someplace else? Figuring out how to reach it took a very long time.
Mother: The people with you, they saw this, too?
Man In Black: Yes, they have some very interesting ideas about what to do with it.
Mother: Do with it? You don’t’ have any idea wh--
Man In Black: I have no idea because you wouldn’t tell me, Mother.
[Man In Black dislodges a stone, which allows light to filter in - Mother notices a large, wooden wheel leaning against the cavern wall]
Mother: What is that?
Man In Black: It’s a wheel…We’re going to make an opening…one much bigger than this one; and, then I’m going to attach that wheel to a system we’re building. A system that channels the water and the light. And then I’m gonna turn it. And when I do…I’ll finally be able to leave this place.
Mother: How do you know all this? How do you know it will work?
Man In Black: I’m special…Mother.

[Ben, Miles, and Richard are on their way to The Barracks]
Miles: You sure this is a shortcut?
Ben: I lived in these houses a long time, Miles. I think I can remember how to get there.

Ben: Guess it's a good thing you're following me.

Ben: It was the room I used to summon The Monster. But that was before I realized it was summoning me.
[Miles looks confused; Ben opens his case of C4]
Ben: Well Richard, I don't know how much we need. Are we planning on disabling the plane or blow it to hell?
Richard: Blow it to hell.
Ben: Than we'd better take it all.

[Ben has given up Widmore and Zoe to the Man in Black]
Ben: Sorry, Charles.
The Man in Black: What a pleasant surprise. How nice to finally talk to you without those fences between us.[Looks to Zoe] And who might you be?
Zoe: Zoe, my name is Zoe--
Widmore: Don't talk to him. Don't say anything!
[The Man in Black interrupts by swiftly slitting Zoe's throat with his knife, she collapses in Widmore's arms dying]
Widmore: Why would you do that?
The Man in Black: You told her not to talk to me. That made her pointless. Now... Charles, it's clear you're not afraid to die. So there's only one way to motivate you to tell me what I want to know. Soon this will all be over. I'll get what I want. And I'll finally leave this Island. And when I do, the first thing I'm gonna do is kill your daughter. Penny.
Widmore: You'll kill her whether I talk to you or not.
The Man in Black: No, I won't. I give you my word.
Widmore: And I'm supposed to just take your word?
The Man in Black: You tell me why you came back here and I will not hurt your daughter.
Widmore: I brought Desmond Hume back here because of his unique resistance to electromagnetism. He was a measure of last resort.
The Man in Black: What do you mean "last resort?"
Widmore: [Looks at Ben] I'm not saying any more in front of him.
The Man in Black: Well than whisper to me.
[Widmore whispers in MIB's ear, before he is shot several times by Ben, killing him]
Ben: He doesn't get to save his daughter.
The Man in Black: Ben...You never cease to amaze me. Fortunately, he already told me what I needed to know. So, no harm done.
Ben: Good...Did you say there were some other people to kill?

Kate: So you're the one who wrote our names on the wall?
Jacob: I am.
Kate: Sun and Jin Kwon and Sayid Jarrah. You wrote their names on the wall?
Jacob: Yes,
Kate: Is that why they're dead?
Jacob: I'm very sorry.
Kate: You're sorry?
Hurley: Kate...
Kate: No, I wanna know why. I wanna know that Sun and Jin and Sayid didn't die for nothing.
Jacob: ...Come and sit down and I will tell you what they died for. I'll tell you why I chose them. And why I chose you. And I'll tell you everything you need to know about protecting this Island, because by the time that fire burns out, one of you is gonna have to start doing it. [The group gathers around] I don't really know where to start.
Hurley: How about why you brought us to the Island.
Jacob: I brought all of you here because I made a mistake. A mistake I made a very long time ago, and now, because of that there's a very good chance every single one of you and everyone you've ever cared about is going to die.
Sawyer: What mistake?
Jacob: You call him "The Monster." But I'm responsible for what happened to him. I made him that way. And ever since then he's been trying to kill me. It was only a matter of time before he figured out how, and when he did, someone would have to replace me. And that's why I brought you all here.
Sawyer: Tell me something, Jacob. Why do I gotta be punished for your mistake? What made you think you could mess with my life? I was doing just fine until you dragged my ass to this rock.
Jacob: No you weren't. None of you were. I didn't pluck any of you out of some happy existence. You were all flawed. I chose you because you were all like me. You were all alone. You were all looking for something you couldn't find out there. I chose you because you needed this place as

[The Man in Black and Ben find Desmond has escaped from the well he was trapped in]
Ben: What did Widmore say to you?
The Man in Black: He said Desmond was a fail-safe. Jacob's last resort in case, God forbid, I managed to kill all of his beloved candidates. One final way to make sure I never leave this Island.
Ben: Then...Why are you happy he's alive?
The Man in Black: Because I'm gonna find Desmond, and when I do he's gonna help me do the one thing that I could never do myself. I'm gonna destroy the Island.

TV Show: Lost
Jack: Jacob didn't say anything to me about Desmond.
Sawyer: Doesn't sound like he said anything about anything.
Hurley: That's kind of true, dude. He's worse than Yoda.
Sawyer: All right, ya'll head to your heart of the island and I'll go back and get the magic leprechaun out of that well.
Jack: If we leave a trail can you catch up with us?
Sawyer: [nods] Hell, yeah, I can.
Jack: Then be safe.
Sawyer: [to Kate] I'd ask you along, but that'd take all of the fun out of me telling you you can't come.
Kate: [smiles] I guess I'll just have to resist the urge to follow you anyway.

Kate: Why did you take the job, Jack?
Jack: Because I was supposed to.
Kate: Why? Because some stranger wrote our names on a wall?
Jack: I took it because the island's all I've got left. It's the only thing in my life I haven't managed to ruin.
Kate: You haven't ruined anything. Nothing is irreversible.
Hurley: This would be so sweet if we weren't all about to die.

The Man in Black: I'd save your bullets.[Confronts Jack] So it's you?
Jack: Yeah, it's me.
The Man in Black: Jacob being who he is, I was expected to be a little more surprised. You're sort of the obvious choice, don't you think?
Jack: He didn't choose me. I volunteered.
The Man in Black: I assume you're here to stop me?
Jack: I can't stop you. In fact I uh, I wanna go with you.
The Man in Black: I'm sorry Jack, I think you're a little confused about what I came here to do.
Jack: No I'm not. You're going to the far side of the bamboo forest, to the place I've sworn that I'll protect. And then you think you're going to destroy the Island.
The Man in Black: "I think?"
Jack: [Smiles]That's right, because that's not what's going to happen.
The Man in Black: And what's gonna happen, Jack?
Jack: I'm gonna kill you.
The Man in Black: [Visibly intimidated]... How are you planning to do that?
Jack: That's a surprise.

The Man in Black: This remind you of anything, Jack?
Jack: What?
The Man in Black: You and me, Desmond going down into a hole in the ground. If there was a button down there we could argue whether or not to push it. It'd be just like old times.
Jack: You're not John Locke. You disrespect his memory by wearing his face, but you're nothing like him. Turns out he was right about most everything. Just wish I could have told him that while he was still alive.
The Man in Black: He wasn't right about anything, Jack. And as soon as this Island drops into the ocean and you drop with it, you're going to realize that.
Jack: Well I guess we'll just have to see which one of us is right.

Locke: [Trying to get up, very emotional] No, what we need to do is go.
Jack: No, you can't get up.
Locke: [Smiles happily] Will you come with me?
Jack: We are not going anywhere. You've just had extensive spinal surgery. Now you need to lie back. I- I need to see my son.[Starts to leave]
Locke: You don't have a son.

Juliet: Yes, and its technically legal.
James: I'll give it a shot. [unplugs and cuts off power to the room] Oops.
Juliet: It worked. [hands the candy bar to him and remembers their life on the island]
