Cathy Young: They will find some jerk on the internet saying something really really asinine, or someone deliberately trolling, someone saying sexist things to upset feminists. It's this really toxic vicious cycle because I think people know by now that feminists get very upset by things people say on the internet. So, you know, if you want to get a rise out of someone one of the easiest ways to do that is to get on the internet and just make a rape joke or say something misogynist or whatever. And then you get the reaction and it just spins out of control. And one of the things that I found amazing is that these comments. You find one idiotic comment that someone makes on Facebook and then it gets screen-capped and it gets posted with a comment like Tell me we don't live in a deeply misogynistic society when somebody said this about raping unconscious women or something. Well okay, first of all it is one person who said this. Any normal person would find this to be an outrageous comment and secondly I'm not even sure if the person who posted that actually believes that. More likely than not they posted it because they know that idiots like you are gonna screen-cap it, send it around the internet and wave their hands about it.
